2013 Annual Dinner

May 29, 2013 @ 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm

“Lily, Glencora, Ayala and Isabel: Female Desire and Women’s Rights”

Our Speaker: Professor Deborah Denenholz Morse, William & Mary College

Professor Deborah Denenholz Morse, William & Mary College noted Trollope scholar, charmed attendees with her insights, wisdom and love of Trollope. It is remarkable good luck on our part to find such a rich and varied source of Trollope knowledge and to have had her accept the invitation with so little time.

Professor Morse has delivered countless talks and speeches and classes and seminars on Trollope, and also written very widely on Trollope on topics ranging from Women, to Race and Gender, to Politics, to Humor, to the Art of Fiction, and more. Her personality and sparkle are perfect for our Dinner Speaker. She is a very serious and prominent Trollope scholar, and yet her overall attitude towards Trollope comes from the perspective of affection, not dissection.

She is the author of several eminent books, including Women in Trollope’s Palliser Novels and Reforming Trollope, as well as the edited volume The Politics of Gender in Trollope; the judge of the Annual Trollope Prizes for undergraduate and graduate students; is on the upcoming 2015 Trollope Bicentennial event committee; has worked with leading Trollope scholars as editor and contributor to books and symposia relating to Trollope; and has herself received numerous awards and honors for her work on Trollope.
