ThackerayFirst published in 1879 in the English Men of Letters series, Trollope’s biography of his friend William Makepeace Thackeray is a valuable introduction to Thackeray’s works. Produced sixteen years after Thackeray’s death, the book deals with the writer’s five major works.

As Trollope writes, Thackeray “sees his characters, both men and women, with a man’s eye and with a woman’s” and “dissects [them] with a knife and also with a needle.”
